Dear Friends:

Happy New Year!  This Sunday is the last chance to sing Christmas Carols until next December.  The Three Kings will arrive bringing their gifts as part of the celebration of the Epiphany.

Here is the news of the week:
  • First Friday Organ Recitals begin tomorrow!  These meditative, relaxing recitals last about 30 minutes. Charlie Houmard invites you to bring a sandwich and a friend.  Following the recital, Charlie will be happy to answer questions about the music, organ and its workings.
  • Christology – Wednesday, January 23 at 7pm--The early church had a lot to say about who Jesus Christ is, not just what he’s done. Some of what they have to say is perplexing, especially the writings from the Council of Chalcedon. For instance, Chalcedon says that Christ is visible and invisible, mutable and immutable, etc. How can all of that be true? In this talk, Jared Henderson will present a version of a paper he has recently had accepted for publication on Chalcedonian Christology. We will discuss what the early church said about Christ, why they said it, and what this means for us today.
  • The Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday, January 27 following the 10am service.  Join us for a light brunch and discussion of the plans for 2019, discussion of the budget and election of the new vestry class.
  • Ever wonder where the beautiful poinsettias and wreathes decorating the chapel come from?  Tri -County Greenhouse on Rt. 44 is the answer.  One of the great things about Tri-County Greenhouse is that they are a private non-profit (part of ARC Connecticut) that works with adults with developmental disabilities. They train and employ a team of friendly and hardworking people with disabilities. Think spring –check out their large selection of annuals and perennials.
  • Many, many thanks to Gloria and David Sykes for their hard work in cleaning up the front gardens, trimming bushes, cutting vines out of trees and generally making the grounds look neat and tidy.  Come spring the flower beds will look lovely.
  • A Eucharistic Minister is needed for January 20 at 10am.  Please let the office know if you can serve.
  • Piano lessons for children ages 2-92 will be offered at St. Mark's.  If you are interested, please speak with Charlie Houmard.

Best wishes, Linda
