The Weekly Update
Worship Service Booklets:
Dr. Ava Lindberg will provide a lay address at the 8:00 and 10:00 services on July 13.
Dr. Ava Lindberg, Jungian depth psychologist, professor, and passionate participant in Episcopal sacred music, will explore how sound, song, and music are not merely accompaniments but essential acts and activators of worship. Drawing on Jungian insights into the phenomenology of sound as a portal into unconscious and conscious spaces of worship, this address reflects on how singing and collective sound activate worship alongside the textual liturgy. Together, song, sound, and music can transform worshippers’ personal experiences into embodied and sacred encounters with the divine. Ava Lindberg, Ph.D., holds a doctorate in depth psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute and a master’s in cultural anthropology from Columbia University. She teaches research methodologies in Sofia University’s PhD psychology program and conducts applied research in Jungian and observational methods. A former church organist and student of piano improvisation, composition, and the neuroscience of music at Mannes and Juilliard extensions, she sings soprano in the St. Mark’s choir.
